Lost Friends Tribute - 7:00 PM

Lynn, MA 02739
USA

Price: FREE

This is an annual trek of friends that have met over the years in Boston area coffeehouses.  Each year we decide a theme like, the Sixties, or British Invasion or as in this year Lost Friends of 2017.  Lost friends will include the music of such notables as Glenn Campbell, Mel Tillis, Fats Domino, Tom Petty, Gregg Allman, Chuck Berry, J Geils and unfortunately a host of others that have passed away. It is always interesting to see who picks what artist(s).

I've always loved Tom Petty...so I am planning on doing Wildflowers, Mary Janes Last Dance and You Don't Know How It Feels.  It is good to get out of the comfort zone of my own material so I always look forward to this show.

The Bent Water is a Tap Room, so they only serve beer.  BYOF or get delivery, all acceptable here! Come ready for a great time at the Bent Water just a few yards off Rte. 1A in Lynn!

Helen Avakian performs an exciting array of original songs and acoustic guitar instrumentals. Her stage presence is alternately enchanting and down to earth as she takes her listeners on a musical journey from the US to China, Brazil, Ireland and other parts of the world. She is joined by her partner in music and life, guitarist/vocalist/percussionist, Dave Irwin.

Helen is the 2014 International Fingerstyle Guitar Champion, and the first female to win this prestigious competition. Helen’s latest recording, “Notes from Helen,” recently made it to the finals of the Just Plain Folks Awards 2010 – 2016 for “Best Guitar Album” and has received this praise: “ Notes from Helen is an extraordinary CD, ranking with the very best fingerstyle – or any style – guitar albums.” Minor 7th Helen has received raves from reviewers who call her “a rising star,” and a “guitar goddess.” Acoustic Guitar magazine describes her playing as “impressive… full of life and energy.” Helen’s previous album, “I Love the Moon,” also received much acclaim and radio airplay. Elmore Magazine called the CD “new and exciting…indelible songs centered around a girl and her guitar, singing what matters most.”

It has been seven years since I released my most recent CD, Lightning in A Bottle.  Though I never stopped writing I had my focus on several other things that kept me from getting into the studio.  Late this spring the gears started turning and I contacted John Mailloux of Bongo Beach Productions in Westport, MA to see if he would engineer/produce 'Stories I've Told'.  He said he would and we were off to work on a new project.

'Stories I've Told' has 11 tracks of songs, 10 that I wrote or co-wrote and one song known as the 'worlds saddest song' written by Commander Cody.  Co-writers include Michael Troy, Steve Ribiero ('Take Us to the Other Side' & 'Higher you Climb'), Ralph DeFlorio and Brooks Williams ('Country Queen') and Terry Finch ('Hard Road')

I'll be performing the whole CD with The One Night Stand Band including Louis Leeman (bass), George Correia (percussion), Matt Borrello (guitar), Dock Murdock (dobro) Johnny Botelho (harmony vocals), Fred Miller (harmonica and flute) and possibly another guest.

Gary Fish will be opening the show with a 30 minute set.

Chuck has been doing 2 shows a year here at Sandywoods. Beyond performing throughout New England, he is President of the Rhode Island Songwriters Association. There seems to be a proud tradition of speaking truth to power in many of his songs. Chuck has had the pleasure of opening for national touring acts such as Jimmy Le Fave, Steve Forbert, Cheryl Wheeler, Rod Mc Donald, Pegi Young and the Survivors, Kelly Joe Phelps, Beau Coup Bleu amongst others.

Louis Leeman, an active member of the New England music scene for over 3 decades, is a singer, musician and song writer who resides in Swansea, MA. During that time, Louis has had the opportunity to play with many talented musicians in a variety of settings and styles. As an opening act for Tom Rush, Leon Russell, Paul Barrere and Fred Tackett of Little Feat, Savoy Brown, Darrel Scott, Chip Taylor and Carrie Rodrigues, Louis has had the opportunity to play to audiences who expect the best.

Copake Farmers Market This is one of the most progressive farmers markets I've ever been to. Fresh organic produce direct from the fields and hills of the Western Berkshires. (I never leave without any!) Local businesses sponsor each week thereby allowing performers to be compensated in something other than the great produce! I have performed here for the past few years as it is near my kids and grandkids in the Berkshires and makes for a great dual purpose roadtrip! Promise new songs, new guitars, new set lists. Come one come all and browse!!
